My DJ idol, frequent collaborator, and bff Kid Cut Up is a machine. This man works harder than anyone I’ve ever met (I’d like to consider myself a close second) and he is truly one of the illest DJs on the planet. His skills are top-notch, and his ideas are always cutting-edge. One of my favorite routines of his is called “A Good Day Under the Bridge”, where he blends Ice Cube’s “Good Day” with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Under the Bridge”. The routine has been slaying live for the better part of a year, so the next logical step was to give it a video treatment. He and Darren Cole of Alphabang Productions teamed up to make said video, and it has been getting CRAZY love all over the intertron. I couldn’t be happier for the both of them. Here it is in all its glory….
This week’s video comes from none other than X-Ecutioner and Ill Insanity member Total Eclipse. By far one of the most underrated DJs in the world, and my personal favorite member of the X-Men. Also one of the funkiest beat jugglers ever.
Don’t forget, Saturday Meat Number 5 opens for the Glitch Mob, Free the Robots, and Deru at the Double Door! Get tickets HERE.
I watched this again the other night and it got me super hyped to go cut it up at the club. This is the epitome of technical juggling right here. What makes it even more amazing is this dude placed top 5 in the world without so much as a baby scratch. Jugglers FTW.
One of my biggest influences ever, point blank. Great dj, and an even better person. His “Like A Pimp” juggle about 2 minutes in is one of the best juggles ever. Chi-town make some noise in here!
Its new segment time here at BIGONCE.COM, fresh DJ vid of the week (applause).
So anyone that has known me for a while knows I’m a huge video nerd, especially when it comes to battles. Watching DMC and ITF videos coming up really shaped who I am as a DJ, and made me want to do more than just play records in a club. I was always into scratching and trick mixing as a kid, but getting my first real DJ video in 1998 (X-Men in X-Ercise Vol 1) completely changed my life.
A few years later I purchased the 2003 DMC US Finals DVD, and this routine here completely flipped me out. It took me probably 30 views to really grasp what this dude was doing, and also made me really shift my focus from scratching to beat juggling. So here we go, the inaugural DJ vid of the week is DJ Shiftee at the 2003 DMC US Finals.
