So as you should all know by now (or if you don’t, see the post below) my band Meat Number 5 is almost done with our second full length album. We will be giving it away as a free download, but we’d like to press it up on CD as well. We are taking a stab at a Kickstarter project attempting to get some assistance with duplication, mastering and shipping costs. For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter, its a pretty awesome network for artists looking to raise money to fund creative projects. Read about the Kickstarter program here and please take a second to visit our project here.
Thanks for the support!
My Meat Number 5 cohort Ricky Ropesack and I have been hard at work on our second full-length album, “Low Flying Planes” for quite some time now, and we are happy to report that its nearing completion. We have revamped our website (holler at it here) and put a new track up on youtube for your listening enjoyment. Peep that below, and come to our show tomorrow at Double Door where we are opening for Beardyman!
Man, do I suck at updates. Being the complete and total slack ass that I am, I am always behind in updating the blog portion of this fine site. However, my gig calendar is always up to date with my latest gigs, you can peep that HERE. You can also stay up on all things Big Once-related by hittin them “Follow Me” links to the right of the page.
Now, for some news. The Red Bull Thre3style US Finals has been announced, and its all going down November 10th at Rain Nightclub at the Palms Hotel in lovely Las Motherfuckin Vegas. The event pages and promotion are coming soon, so much more on that later.
Now for a couple show announcements. I’m making my debut at the brand new Board Room nightclub this Saturday Sept 10th; my set is from 1:30-4. I have tons of new routines and remixes to try out, so I’m excited for this one. Later in the month my band Meat Number 5 is opening for Beardyman Sept 23rd at Double Door. If you don’t know Beardyman, youtube that shit. Here’s the link to the show right hurr, and a couple flyers below. Chuuch.

So as you may or may not have heard, the Red Bull Thre3style Battle finally came to Chicago on Thursday, April 28th at The Mid. I was lucky enough to be one of the 8 DJs selected to participate, along with my Music Trust brethren DJ Trentino, Hot Dog Records co-founders Zebo and Marco Morales, Crossfader King Matt Roan, Jay Illa, DJ Jem, and Ghetto Division honcho Charlie Glitch. The judges for the evening were none other than DJ Craze, Chuck Flask, and Jay-E (Nick Catchdubs was originally supposed to be the third judge but his plane was late).
After a month of nonstop work, including literally hundreds of hours putting together, organizing, and cutting down my routine, this is what I came up with.
After all the votes were tallied, my bros DJ Zebo took third, DJ Trentino locked up second, and I took the grand prize. Now its off to Vegas in the fall to compete in the 2011 Red Bull Thre3style US Finals! (More details coming soon on that).
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported me that night, and all the positive feedback I’ve gotten via Twitter, FB, and this very site. Extra special love goes out to my beautiful wife Erica for putting up with me over the last month, and also to my favorite DJ in the world Kid Cut Up. I’ve been sayin this, but I WOULD NOT have won the battle without him.
Chi-town, WE DID IT.

As many of you know, the true Godfather of hip hop, Kool Herc, is suffering from illness and lack of health insurance. First reported by the great DJ Premier on his blog, there has been a strong online campaign to take up collections to help this man with his medical bills. There have been a couple fundraisers across the country, notably in NYC, LA, and SF, and tonight DJ Intel and myself are throwing the Chicago edition at Butterfly Social Club. We got basically every dope DJ in Chicago to come rock it, strictly on vinyl, to benefit the man who in one way or another impacted our lives for the better. After Butterfly, we will heading over to Empire Liquors where my brother Rude 1 will be rocking with special guest D-Styles. Collections will be taken there as well. Huge thanks to Intel, DJ Trilogy and Rude for the venue hookups and support. Details on the flyer below, and peep more info on Herc HERE.
